Subject: This one stopped me in my tracks...

From Name: [[fromName]]

Hi [[leadFirstName]],

This past weekend, we had a seminar right here in Newtown, Pennsylvania. Bucks County, Pa is so beautiful in the fall and the weather was perfect. Some of our 8 Weeks to Wellness teams from around the country got together. It’s always a great event and I really enjoy spending time with like-minded people, learning, and growing in our commitment to health and wellness.

We had a lot of terrific speakers such as Dr. Ed Betof, who spoke on the importance of leadership and what it takes to be a great leader. We had another doctor speak on the keys to success, which as it turns out is to have a relentless and passionate pursuit of your goals and mission, yet at the same time, have a personal humility to make it about the mission and not about yourself.

One of my favorite speakers was Dr. Brian Hester. He spoke about “the secret sauce” to success in ANY aspect of your life, marriage, health, business, and relationships. Then he showed us a slide that stopped me in my tracks because it was so profound.

“Commitment means doing what you say you’re going to do long after the mood in which you said it is gone.”

If you take anything in your life that matters; your marriage, your health, your relationship with your kids, your family, your savings and retirement, your career, it’s much easier to say you’re going to do something than to actually do it. We like the instant gratification of feeling like we’re committed, “Do you take this woman to be your wife in sickness and in health? “I do”. Such an amazing feeling when we make the commitment right? However, then the work sets in. "This year is the year I get healthy, stop drinking, start exercising and lose 30lbs..." However, then we must endure the discomfort of it all. It feels good to think about getting healthy and looking good in the present, however, it takes a lot of work in the future. The reward is delayed for quite a while. We live in an immediate return, “I want it now” culture. We want the rainbow but don’t want to wait through the rain for it.

So, think about what matters most… Stephen Covey said that “things that matter most should NEVER be at the mercy of things which matter least". Those things that matter? Fight for them, suffer for them, take pride in them, and wait for your happiness in them. There will be pain and suffering in the now, but reward and pay off in the future. My new favorite mantra for myself is “lean into it”. When I feel the pain of life, and we will ALL feel the pain of life, lean into it, soak it in, because there is no growth without pain and suffering. And this is not suffering for suffering's sake, that's a masochist, but suffering with growth to come.

Angelina Jolie said “Without pain, there would be no suffering, without suffering we would never learn from our mistakes. To make it right, pain and suffering is the key to all windows, without it, there is no way of life. We are healed from suffering only by experiencing it to the fullest”.

Yours in Great Health,
